Due to increased interest in travelling by train ahead of the start of the next school year, the Slovak Railway Company (ZSSK) is upping the number of carriages on InterCity (IC) trains in order to ensure comfortable and trouble-free travel for all passengers.
Between August 28 and September 1, this concerns seven IC trains on the northern route between Bratislava and Košice, which will see in total eight air-conditioned carriages added, providing additional 592 seats. So far, the trains are 75 percent full. The company advises passengers to buy tickets ahead.
On Wednesday and Friday, one carriage is added to the IC 45 from Bratislava-Nové Mesto departing at 15:43 and one to the IC 525 departing from Bratislava Main Railway station at 17:34. They will arrive in Košice at 20:27 and 22:21, respectively.
Similarly on Thursday, IC 44 and IC 522 trains departing from Košice at 7:34 and 11:34, respectively, will see one carriage added to them. These will arrive in Bratislava at 12:17 and 16:26, respectively.
Finally on Sunday, two carriages will be added to the IC 522 train departing from Košice at 11:34 and arriving in Bratislava at 16:26.
Furthermore, 33 trains will be laid on between August 28 and September 2 on various lines across Slovakia. These concern the express trains Tatran and Šariš operating the route Bratislava – Košice/Prešov/Humenné and back; fast trains Považan operating on the route Bratislava – Žilina; fast trains Urpín on the route Bratislava – Zvolen/Banská Bystrica and back; fast trains Bojnice on the route Bratislava – Prievidza and back; and fast trains Tatran on the route Žilina – Košice.
In addition, international fast trains Zakarpatia operating between Košice, eastern Slovakia, and Mukachevo, western Ukraine will get an extra carriage as well until September 15.
