Iran is considering launching a direct air link between Tehran and Bratislava, the country’s newly appointed ambassador to Slovakia, Asadollah Eshragh Jahromi, has announced. The proposal was raised during his introductory visit to Peter Mihók, president of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SOPK).
Discussions between the two officials focused on expanding economic and trade cooperation, despite existing international restrictions on business with Iran. “We are aware of the limitations imposed by international regulations, but we also believe the Iranian market holds significant potential for Slovak companies. It would be a missed opportunity not to explore it,” Mihók said.
Iran has also expressed interest in attracting Slovak investment, with the SOPK stating it will monitor developments closely to ensure Slovak businesses are prepared if geopolitical conditions improve. Tourism was highlighted as a particularly promising sector, with Iranian officials keen to explore opportunities for medical tourism in Slovakia’s renowned spa resorts.
Jahromi is expected to visit Slovak regions to assess their economic potential and promote trade opportunities for Iranian businesses. The Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry noted that Iran is already gaining traction as a destination for Slovak travel agencies, underscoring growing interest in closer ties between the two nations.
Iran has no embassy in Slovakia, with the closest one located in Vienna. Slovakia, however, maintains an embassy in Iran.
