From December, a new carrier, the Czech company Leo Express, will start transporting passengers on the Bratislava-Komárno train line.
The train operator currently operates a line through the north of Slovakia, from Prague via Ostrava and Žilina to Košice.
Leo Express also has other plans in Slovakia. In the longer term, the firm wants to start transporting passengers to more distant European cities in Germany and Belgium, writes Index magazine.
But making this vision a reality first requires that several conditions be met. One is high-speed lines, on which trains can travel at a speed of over 200 kilometres per hour, thus effectively competing with air transport.
