Number of foreigners working in Slovakia is on the rise

The nation most frequently represented on the Slovak labour market is Serbia.

A total of 45,900 foreigners were officially working in Slovakia at the end of September. Compared to the same date last year, this means an increase of 12,700 people, the SITA newswire wrote on November 3.

The nation most frequently represented on the Slovak labour market is Serbia. At the end of September, more than 8,500 Serbs were working in Slovakia, which is 4,300 more y-o-y, the data of the Slovak Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family shows.

The second biggest number of foreigners on the local labour market come from Romania – almost 8,500 came to work here. Their number increased by 1,100 y-o-y, SITA reported.

They are followed by the Czech Republic which reported 4,500 of their citizens employed in Slovakia at the end of September which is 576 more than last year.

Monitoring shows that every fourth foreigner in Slovakia works in Bratislava. In total, 12,700 foreigners were employed in the five boroughs of the Slovak capital. Bratislava was followed by the Trnava district which recorded 9,500 foreigners employed at the same point in time. The labour office in Malacky had 1,600 workers coming from other countries while only five foreigners worked in the eastern-Slovak district of Gelnica.
