Only one-quarter of Slovaks earn more than €1,200

The average wage in 2018 exceeded the €1,000 threshold for the first time.

For the very first time in its history, the average wage in Slovakia crossed the €1,000 threshold in 2018. This happened even though the wages grew at the slower pace than the year before, an analysis of the Platy.sk website suggests.

The average wage increased by 5.6 percent year-on-year to €1,035, which is the second highest wage increase in history.

The highest increase, by 6.9 percent y-o-y, was reported by the Trenčín Region (€955 on average) and the Žilina Region (€929 on average). On the other hand, the salaries in the Prešov Region (€841 on average), increased the least, by only 4.8 percent y-o-y in 2018.

People in Bratislava still earn the most, €1,336 gross a month.

The analysis shows that 10 percent of Slovaks earn less than €605 gross, while 25 percent earn more than €1,251. Only 10 percent receive €1,648 or more.

Worst & best paid jobs

Working as a cleaning lady or post office worker, helping out in a kitchen, and being a carer, are the worst paid jobs, according to the analysis.

On the other hand, IT architects, pilots, lawyers, and tax advisors are the best paid jobs.

While a cleaning lady earns €515 on average, an IT architect can get €2,889 for his/her job, which is 179 percent more than Slovakia's average wage, the analysis showed.
