PSA Peugeot Citroen in Trnava (source: SITA)
Opel will not belong to the US automotive concern General Motors anymore, as the company agreed on an acquisition by the French company PSA Groupe, the Sme daily wrote.
PSA Groupe has, among other plants, one in Voderady near the city of Trnava in western Slovakia.
The transaction, amounting to €2.2 billion, was confirmed by both companies on March 6. With such a step, the French carmaker will become the second biggest carmaker in Europe.
The Trnava plant could also profit from this, as Opel Corsa could be produced there in the future. This is a small city model, in which the Slovak plant specialises. Last year, PSA Peugeot Citroën produced 315,000 cars – Peugeot 208, Citroën C3, and Citroën C3 Picasso, although the last is not a small city car.
