Zlaté Piesky is one of the most popular recreational areas in Bratislava. During the summer months, thousands of people visit the lake on the outskirts of the city.
For many years, there have been no major investments to improve the area. However, a new property development supported by the Kooperativa insurance company could change that.
The project – which includes a promenade, swimming pool, and leisure facilities – was recently approved by the city council. This happened despite objections from the Ružinov district, which disagreed with the plan. Still, the council gave final approval.

Long-term plans
The new development will be built in the area between the Styla department store and nearby gardens close to the lake.
In the past, the Soravia group, which owned the nearby Shopping Palace centre, had its own plans for this area. They wanted to build a 70,000-square-metre Relax Sports Complex, including flats, a hotel, a sports hall, and various sports fields.
That complex was meant to be completed by 2013, but it was never started. One reason may have been that the Shopping Palace failed to attract enough tenants, and the investor eventually sold it.
