The plant of French automaker PSA Peugeot Citroën in Trnava is going to implement a unique weekend shift to produce the new model.
The weekend shift will bring jobs for 570 production operators, 170 skilled maintenance workers, administrators of equipment and car repairers, 46 team leaders and 8 managers. Their salary will range from 70 to 80 percent of the income in a three-shift system, according to Ľubomír Kollár, director of HR department in PSA Peugeot Citroën.
“Our goal is to produce 360,000 vehicles per year,” Kollár said on June 23, as quoted by the TASR newswire, “but it is beyond our capabilities with the current regime.”
About 500 employees will work 9.5 hours on Saturday morning or afternoon and on Sunday night and others will work 10 hours from Friday to Sunday. Kollár sees an opportunity for students or those people who cannot work during the week due to family issues.
“People from distant regions will take the bus to Trnava, earn money and have the whole week off,” Kollár told TASR.
Currnetly about 200 internal employees have shown interest in the weekend shift and another 80 are making the decision, according to Daniela Schweizer, head of the recruitment centre in PSA.
PSA announced the fourth shift in December 2015 as a response to the growth in demand and approval of the production of the new model. The plant with 3,500 employees produces 1,350 cars per day which led to the production of 303,000 cars in 2015.
