SLOVAKIA is ready to receive, administer and control European Union rural and agricultural development funds, said EU commissioner for agriculture, rural development and fisheries Franz Fischler.
EU officials have signed a resolution accrediting five measures in the Plan for the Rural and Agricultural Development of Slovakia, which will allow the implementation of concrete projects. So far, the European Commission has allocated 18.6 million euro for 2000 and 18.9 million euro for 2001 towards development programs in Slovakia.
Under the programme, 28 per cent is allocated for supporting agricultural companies, 27 per cent for improvements in processing and sales of farm and fishery products and between 14 and 17 per cent for diversification of rural activities. Forestry and land cultivation are allocated seven per cent each. Remaining funds will be used to support other measures.
