About a year ago, the Slovak arm of the German company Schaeffler ceremonially opened a brand new R&D centre in Kysucké Nové Mesto, north-western Slovakia. With a price tag of €20 million, it embodies a long-term pursuit of Slovak engineers, contradicting Slovakia’s reputation as mainly a manufacturing hall.
“Our efforts of more than 20 years have paid off and we have succeeded in moving from simple mechanical products to mechatronic systems that combine mechanics, electronics and software,” Ján Klimko, research and development manager at Schaeffler Slovensko, told The Slovak Spectator.
The R&D centre, covering premises almost as large as a football pitch, features a new four-storey building that houses the development centre and testing premises with technology stations.
