The topic of so-called smart energy is one of the priorities of Energy Union. Slovakia however is significantly lagging behind in this, stated the Economy Ministry in a proposal for the Smart Industry Concept for Slovakia published on August 30.
First of all, it is important to set up smart grids in Slovakia as the main technical solution for the development of an electrical network that will allow for the integration of smart concepts of production (renewable energy sources and other low-carbon energy sources) and of consumption via more substantial involvement of consumers in the energy market (smart households, smart technologies for consumers, consumption management mechanisms, smart buildings, etc.), the ministry wrote, as reported by the TASR newswire.
The introduction of electric mobility should be improved as well.
Some partial smart concepts, such as e-mobility and smart cities, already exist in Slovakia, while some still need to be created. However, the most important thing is mutual interconnection and communication of these concepts as a single unit. Only then can smart energy be described as being present.
The main pillar of smart energy is to exploit information and communication technologies in the energy sector, along with smart measuring systems, digital management and the latest information systems in order to prepare the electrical network for the latest trends and challenges, the ministry claimed.
The smart industry concept for Slovakia was developed via cooperation between the Economy Ministry and representatives of the industrial sector. It is an anticipated reaction to the fourth industrial revolution, which is focused on digitisation.
Meanwhile, the main subjects of the changes that the smart industry concept should usher in are large industrial enterprises as well as small- and medium-sized ones, mostly suppliers of devices, technologies and services. The ultimate aim is to produce more efficiently and to be more competitive, as reported by TASRs.
