STUDENTS of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Košice have built their own full-size car. Except for the basic platform and the engine, the attractive ICAR 2010 cabriolet is the achievement of a team of students, the Pravda daily wrote in late December.
The assignment was not an easy one. The students were assigned to design and manufacture a car in a way which simulated the production processes of carmakers. Moreover, the car was to be attractive in terms of its originality, aggressive design, speed, modern innovative elements and sporty look.
“The platform from Škoda’s Fabia served as the basis and we used a 1.9-litre TDi engine with an output of 120 horsepower,” Miloš Liba from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Košice explained, as quoted by Pravda. The car has a top speed of over 200 kilometres per hour.
Designing the car took one year, while the team worked for another year ‘materialising’ their ideas. The result is an elegant two-seater roadster with wing doors.
But it seems that the ICAR is not the Košice students’ final word.
“Already work on another project, which will differ from this one, has started,” Liba said. “It will be an electric car.”
