The best country for doing business is Singapore, followed by Hong Kong and New Zealand, the Pravda daily wrote on June 8, citing the survey. In Europe, the best countries are Switzerland and Sweden.
The index put Slovakia in 38th place, behind Romania, Macedonia, Portugal and Spain. Slovakia showed an improvement of 0.12 points, giving it a score of 78.4. More countries were included in this year’s survey, which led to Slovakia’s changed position. The score’s improvement was largely a result of better scores in rankings issued by the World Economic Forum and the World Bank, Pravda wrote. The country’s decline in the Economic Freedom Index of the heritage Foundation, however, put it almost two points lower.
Of the neighboring countries, the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria showed improvement, while Hungary’s score dropped.
The goal and methodology of the index
PAS has been compiling a ranking of 100 countries around the world since 2010, comparing the development of their business environments. According to the alliance, the survey shows that Slovakia has not caught up to the countries with the most attractive businesses environments, the SITA newswire wrote.
PAS compiles its Superindex based on data from four global rankings issued each year by the World Economic Forum, the World Bank, the Heritage Foundation, and Transparency International. The Superindex combines the results of the global competitiveness index, World Bank data, economic freedom and corruption perceptions.
