The Slovak airline Tatra Air last year recorded the highest increase in the number of passengers in its five-year history, company officials announced. While it transported 30,410 clients in 1995, last year the number was 44,691, a 46.9 percent increase. This year, the company is projecting that it will serve 60,000 passengers.
After the planned expansion of its fleet to include another SAAB 340 plane, Tatra Air managers said the firm will augment its routes between Bratislava, Košice and Zurich and were not concerned about competition coming from the birth of a new Slovak airline, Slovenské Aerolínie. Instead, the two airlines can work together due to the larger capacity of Slovenské Aerolínie planes (Tatra Air's transport only 35 passengers), Tatra Air officials said.
