Trucks transiting through Bratislava should prepare for a great change. As the completion of the D1/D4 junction is nearing its end, they should prepare for a ban on using Prístavný Bridge, part of the D1 highway. This is the busiest section in Slovakia, with about 100,000 vehicles crossing it every day. Instead, they should use the D4 highway south bypassing Bratislava.

Last week, the transit in one direction - from the Czech Republic towards Trnava, i.e. from Petržalka to the opposite Danube embankment - was already diverted to the D4 highway.

“This is not just an issue of traffic, but also of the quality of life in the city,” said Transport Minister Jozef Ráž. “The aim of rerouting transit traffic is to increase safety and reduce the negative impacts of traffic on residents such as noise, dust and air pollution.”
