ONE in five Slovaks has admitted to giving a bribe, according to a corruption survey published by the Hospodárske Noviny economic newspaper on August 13.
Bribes were chiefly given by the older generation, creative specialists, businesspeople and trades workers. On the other hand, young people and people with an elementary school education refuse to give bribes.
Two-thirds of people believe that bribery mainly flourishes in the health sector, judicial system and police.
