Janoska Ensemble - Viva Musica! festival 2018

Stará tržnica, Námestie SNP 25, Bratislava Old Town, Thursday, July 12, 20:00

At the Viva Musica! festival in 2015, Bratislava’s Old Market Hall was sold out for the Janoska ensemble’s performance. Since then they have given hundreds of concerts on three continents, successfully completed concert tours in America and Asia, issued a debut CD on the label of the prestigious German recording company Deutsche Grammophon, for which they received a golden disc, and performed the world premiere of the first part of the Janoska Symphony, entitled Bratislava! with the Wiener Symphoniker in Vienna’s Musikverein. The Janoska Ensemble was founded in 2013 by the brothers Ondrej, Roman and František Janoska, along with their brother-in-law Julius Darvas. Their music is based on classical, which in their inimitable fashion – Janoska-style – they combine with other musical genres such as jazz, pop, film music and world music. They give concerts mainly abroad, and so their appearances in Slovakia are always special occasions! Their performance at the Viva Musica! festival this year will be no exception: they will appear with their new project From Bratislava to Hollywood! Admission: €15. More info: goo.gl/YLgacx.

Jasmin Toccata

Large Lutheran Church, Panenská 28, Sunday, July 15, 8:00

The world-renowned French harpsichordist Jean Rondeau, following his extraordinarily successful concert at the Viva Musica! festival in 2016, is returning to Bratislava! With his ambition of winning back popularity for a musical instrument which had its Golden Age in the Baroque era (until superseded by the fortepiano), he arrives with an exceptional project, where two apparently unconnected musical worlds meet: classical Baroque music combines with the richly ornamented music of the Orient. The Jasmin Toccata project came into being in collaboration with top-ranking French musicians – lute-player Thomas Dunford and percussionist Keyvan Chemirani, who is also the creator of the concept and of all of the musical arrangements. TEMPORARY EXHIBITION IN SLOVAK NATIONAL GALLERY:
The eights - The exhibition project The Eights is unconventionally conceived for the atrium as a series of small exhibitions for the anniversaries of the eights: February 1948, August 1968 and October 1918. The basis of the exhibition is a long, 3-meter high wall - "gallery noticeboard" - on which the visual collages will be rotated according to the anniversaries. The results will be a draft or materialised Pinterest board, a reminder of socialist "noticeboard culture". The collages will consist of artistic materials of various types (paintings, photographs, documents), primarily from the collections of the SNG. The final layout, the conflict of the artworks next to each other, their juxtaposition will speak about the nature of the historical event. Open: Tue – Wed 10:00 – 18:00, Thur 12:00 – 20:00, Fri – Sun 10:00 – 18:00 until Dec 31, 2018. More info: www.sng.sk
Berger – Ján Berger‘s art program is based on a visual interpretation of banal reality and his own experience, life feelings, situations and perceptions. He combines these experiences and observed fragments of reality in a lengthy painting process. Through color fields, spots and unrelated details he creates an independent visual language with a new and authentic visual quality. Open: Tue – Wed 10:00 – 18:00, Thur 12:00 – 20:00, Fri – Sun 10:00 – 18:00 until Sep 30, 2018, Esterházy Palace. More info: www.sng.sk
TEMPORARY EXHIBITION IN KUNSTHALLE
Ilona Németh: Eastern sugar – Exhibition includes works by Jeremy Deller, Harun Farocki, Lonnie Van Brummelen & Siebren de Haan, and the invited project Museum of Sugar curated by Miroslav Eliáš. Open: Wed 13:00 – 20:00, Thur – Mon 12:00 – 19:00 until July 15, Námestie SNP 12. More info: www.kunsthallebratislava.sk.
David Bohm, Jiri Franta: No One’s Going to Laugh! Since 2006, when they first began operating as a creative duo in the field of visual art, Jiří Franta (*1978) and David Böhm (*1982) have successfully held numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. These projects are distinguished particularly by an attempt to seek new contexts and significant overlaps of the classical medium of drawing, the examination of its physical limits, and also, for example, thoughts on the wider relationship between image and text structure. Their joint presentations, however, also include performance, videos, spatial installations, interventions in public spaces, wall paintings, and last but not least, publishing activity. With their spontaneity and heuristic approach, this artistic pairing provokes creativity and imagination among audiences, who are drawn into the game in an original and captivating manner by the artists’ relaxed, participative approach, which is open to a cumulation of associations. Open: Wed 13:00 – 20:00, Thur – Mon 12:00 – 19:00 until September 2, Námestie SNP 12. More info: www.kunsthallebratislava.sk.
TEMPORARY EXHIBITION IN DANUBIANA
Markus Huemer: This Exhibition Has an Utopian Superfluity - Markus Huemer works both in the media of painting and drawing, as well as producing interactive installations and environments, and computer animations. In doing so, he investigates the suitability of digital media for art on the basis of his experience with classical ones, bearing in mind art and media history, and questioning at the same time the assumed brilliance of artists by making a sarcastic parody of himself. Open: Tue – Sun 10:00 – 18:00 until September 2, Vodné dielo Čunovo. More info: www.danubiana.sk
Carl Henning Pedersen, Else Alfelt: Artistic Couple - Carl-Henning Pedersen was of essential significance for the Danish art movement of the second half of the 20th century. The experimental nature of his work established a link between contemporary Danish art and the European avant-garde streams from the late 1930s. His work soon found recognition due to its original artistic language in which he successfully transformed the impulses of Cubism and Picasso, and particularly inspirations from the paintings of Klee, Kandinsky, Chagall and other masters. Else Alfelt, the outstanding Danish abstract painter characterized her work as follows: “I depict colour and rhythm.” She composed the rhythm of colours and forms in dynamic and suggestive visual wholes. Open: Tue – Sun 10:00 – 18:00 until September 2, Vodné dielo Čunovo. More info: www.danubiana.sk
Patrícia Koyšová: Zoom – The theme of the solo exhibition of Patrícia Koyšová is expressed by a simple and apt title ZOOM referring us to the view through a camera lens, for example, which enables a smooth change of the focal point for imaging objects at various distances with permanent focus. The artist consistently works with the process of depiction and vision, she studies it especially in abstract painting, the morphological structure of which is flexible, floating and forcing us to look for focal points, but the gaze of the spectator is taken away on waves, streams and swirls. Open: Tue – Sun 10:00 – 18:00 until September 2, Vodné dielo Čunovo. More info: www.danubiana.sk
Dušan Kállay: The Magical World of Colours - “I live my life on the border that separates dream and reality.” And it is this dream aspect of Dušan Kállay’s concepts which we admire in his illustrations and paintings. His dreams, no matter how connected with reality, exist outside this reality and cannot escape it. What seems to us to be a faithful depiction slips away into a mysterious world of unconventional relations and circumstances. This allows the artist to discover the diversity of the world in various forms: through the bizarre world of people, animals and things. Open: Tue – Sun 10:00 – 18:00 until August 15, Vodné dielo Čunovo. More info: www.danubiana.sk
