The temperature difference compared to the average between the years 1961-1990 was +1.6° Celsius higher until the end of October, as measured at the meteorology station in Hurbanovo, the Slovak Hydro-meteorological Institute (SHMÚ) informed the SITA newswire. Even if December fell within the span of long-term average temperatures, this difference is expected to be at least +1.4°C by the end of 2016 – making it the 8th-10th warmest year since the beginning of the 20th century (i.e. since the beginning of regular measuring). The warmest years in Slovakia so far were 2014 (+2,2 °C), 2000 (+2,1 °C), 2015 (+2,0 °C) and 2007 (+1,9 °C).

Also, the volume of precipitation has been interesting this year: it is considerably above average. The year 2016 will very probably be the second or third rainiest year since 1901, SITA cited the SHMÚ.
