COSTUME parades representing the entourages of King Mathias Corvinus and Queen Beatrix of Aragon were the highlight of the 120th anniversary celebration of the founding of the Central Slovak Museum in SNP Square in Banská Bystrica on July 12.
Many activities were available to visitors of all ages at the museum during the celebration. Actors dressed in period clothing welcomed visitors as they entered the museum. The current exhibition to mark the anniversary features a wide array of exhibits and features including a facsimile of the founding document of the Town Museum from 1889, personal lectures at various exhibits and demonstrations of historical fencing and falconry techniques.
There are also a number of activities designed for young children and, of course, the permanent exhibition can be visited. The special anniversary exhibition will run until August 2nd.
The Town museum was founded in 1889 by Banská Bystrica burghers, the TASR wrote. It is the longest continuously running cultural institution in the region.
