THIS YEAR’S CE.ZA.AR architecture competition was neither better nor worse than the previous one; it was merely different. With these words the international jury described the 11th year of the architecture competition organised by the Slovak Chamber of Architects. The winning architects received CE.ZA.AR awards for their excellent professional accomplishments in completing architectural works that significantly enrich Slovak culture at a gala event on October 11.
Dutch architect John B. W. Bosch chaired the international jury. This year the competition brought some excellent works, especially in the sphere of private clients, the Pravda daily wrote. On the other hand, jury members saw room for improvement in public space projects and public orders.
Architects submitted a total of 76 works in six categories. In the category of Family Houses the top prize went to Štefan Polakovič, Roman Halmi, Peter Jurkovič, Lukáš Kordík, Katarína Beladičová, Jana Benková and Ivan Príkopský for Chata (chalet) 5xT in the recreation resort in Senec. Casa Pueblo in Bratislava, designed by the team of Michal Vršanský, Vladimír Vršanský, Branislav Hantabal and Zuzana Nágelová, was selected as best in the category of Blocks of Flats.
The category of Civil and Industrial Buildings was won by the administrative building of the GasOil Engineering company in Spišská Teplica, designed by Peter C. Abonyi. The roofing of the atrium and reconstruction of the facade of the Faculty of Philosophy at Comenius University in Bratislava by Igor Palčo, Barbara Boríková, Miroslav Egyed, Naďa Doletinová, Jozef Karlubík and Rastislav Kňava won in the category of Reconstruction and Renewal of Buildings. Marek Rudohradský, Peter Chaban, and Martina Rudohradská won the category of Interiors for their interior design of the Kilowatt club in Trnava. The Summer Pavilion at the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava designed by Martin Jančok and Alex Šedivec received the prize in the Exteriors category. The public award went to Villa P in Košice by Dušan Burák and Michal Burák.
