Art continues to grace billboards

COMMERCIAL billboards across Europe have once again given way to art as the second annual Billboart Gallery Europe exhibition has started.According to Mira Keratová, the general coordinator of this international project, its aim is to bring contemporary art closer to the viewer and consequently build permanent billboard galleries in Europe's busiest localities.The Slovak portion of the project will see commercial adds on billboards substituted by art at five places in Bratislava's centre (Brnenská and Šancova Streets, Americké námestie), and on the Danube riverbank Nábrežie L Svobodu and Vajanského nábrežie.

According to Mira Keratová, the general coordinator of this international project, its aim is to bring contemporary art closer to the viewer and consequently build permanent billboard galleries in Europe's busiest localities.

The Slovak portion of the project will see commercial adds on billboards substituted by art at five places in Bratislava's centre (Brnenská and Šancova Streets, Americké námestie), and on the Danube riverbank Nábrežie L Svobodu and Vajanského nábrežie. This time they will present art by Rhona Byrne from Ireland, Gordana Andelic Galic from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Roland Farkaš and Jonáš Karásek from Slovakia, and the multinational Nebudu Group.

The project will also run until September 4 in Belgrade (Serbia), Budapest (Hungary), Vienna (Austria), Iasi (Romania), Vilnius (Lithuania), Yerevan (Armenia), Prague (the Czech Republic), Warsaw (Poland), Tbilisi (Georgia), and Zagreb (Croatia).

At the same time, the project will hold the additional programme of Slovak Sublabel. This local project will present billboards, stickers, posters, and video projections by Marko Blažo from Slovakia, Nuur Navid from the Netherlands, and a few other Slovak groups.
