Only a few days ago, the world was taken by the news that Jeff Koons' ‘Rabbit’ statue had been auctioned for more than €81 million. It thus became the most expensive auctioned artwork of any living artist in history.
“People like scandals,” said Tomáš Umrian, who owns the SODA Gallery. “This is an example of a sophisticated strategy by an artist, as well as the gallerist.”
In fact, only a few artists and gallerists work within figures and turnovers of such large investment colossuses, he added.
“The usual art galleries, first and foremost, try first-class presentations, exhibitions and collaborations with museums to happen through publishing brochures and the like,” added Umrian.
