BRATISLAVA's season of formal balls kicked off with the third Opera Ball held at the Slovak National Theatre last Saturday.
The highlight of the ball's programme, directed by Ján Ďurovčík, was scheduled to be the young Italian singer Filippa Giordano. Slovak Opera was represented by stars Ľubica Rybárska and Peter Dvorský. Other performers included the Italian Ricci e Poveri group, the legendary Czech band Olympic, Devil Violin of Berky Mrenica, the Slovak National Ballet, Boom Band and the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
The ball was opened by Andrej Ďurkovský, Bratislava's newly elected mayor. He welcomed the fact that the capital's two major balls, one traditionally held in the National Theatre and one in the Reduta concert hall, had finally reached an agreement to end their two-year rivalry for staging the opening ball. Until last year, both events were held on the same night.
"The Opera Ball is an exclusive event and people are attracted to it by its elegant style and glamour." Ďurkovský said.
