SLOVAK blues musicians are playing a special charity concert on September 26 in a message of sympathy to the victims of Hurricane Katrina,

"New Orleans, the capital of Louisiana, was certainly the merriest city all along the Mississippi River. But the raging destructiveness of Katrina came as a great blow," said the event's initiator, Juraj Turtev.

The Slovak Blues Society is the organizer of the charity evening, with help provided by the American embassy in Slovakia and Bratislava's Stoka theatre.

The latter, located at Pribinova 1, is also the venue for the concert, which starts at 20:00. Among the performers are Silvia Josifoska, Ján Litecký-Šveda, Peter Lipa, Peter "Bonzo" Radványi and Juraj Turtev.

"New Orleans is a city with a strong colonial and migrant history, a city of jazz and the blues, and of great social differences," said Turtev.

The tragedy that hit the "cradle" of their musical inspiration on the great Mississippi River caused immense sorrow in the Slovak blues players' hearts.
