Bratislava is the most affordable Christmas destination

An online travel agency compared 90 cities around the world and set the 2016 Christmas Price Index

More and more people choose not to spend Christmas at home but use this time for travel. The online travel agency Kiwi.com has compared the cost of spending Christmas in 90 cities around the world. The result is the 2016 Christmas Price Index, based on which Bratislava ranks as the most affordable city overall in the ranking and New York is the most expensive city for a Christmassy day.

The Christmas Price Index comprises of two sections. The first one compares the cost of a Christmassy Day in each of the locations, calculating how much consumers and visitors pay for a festive experience such as a traditional Christmas meal, accommodation, a typical holiday drink and a ticket to see The Nutcracker. The second one compares the price of gifts for an average family, to determine the most affordable cities for Christmas shopping, Kiwi.com informed in its press release.

Bratislava ended as the most affordable city, at a cost of €493.43 for a Christmassy Day and shopping. This compares with New York, found to be the most expensive at €1,071.18. Bratislava was also calculated to be in seventh place for the Cost of a Christmassy Day with a total visiting cost of €184.40 and in eighth position in Santa’s Price Index with a total shopping cost of €309.03.

Among other findings were that Kiev is the most affordable city to see The Nutcracker (€5.55) whilst San Francisco is the priciest (€106.70). In terms of Christmas gifts, Belfast is the most affordable city while Jakarta ended as the most expensive.
