The 44th edition of the most prestigious festival of classical music will again enable music lovers to listen to stars of this music genre. A special evening, at which the La Scala Philharmonic will perform under the baton of Daniele Gatti, will precede the festival on November 14. This will be the first performance of this prominent ensemble in Slovakia, and it will certainly be one of the highlights of the music season in this country.
The two-week festival promises more big names from the classical music scene, for example the Royal Flemish Philharmonic and the Belarusian State Philharmonic. The organizers are billing the concert of the Twin-City Orchestra, consisting of the Wiener Symphoniker and the Slovak Philharmonic, as one of the top events of the festival.
The festival program offers performances by 11 orchestras from abroad and instrumental soloists who have won many awards, such as violinist Viktor Tretyakov, cellist Denis Shapovalov, trumpeter Gábor Boldocky and legendary flautist James Galway.
In line with tradition, the festival will premiere a work composed exclusively for the event. This year, the Slovak Sinfonietta of Žilina will play a piece by Marek Piaček. The program also offers works by Eugen Suchoň, whose 100th birthday Slovakia is commemorating this year, including his opera Svätopluk. The Slovak National Theater is preparing the premiere of the opera Orfeo ed Euridice by Christoph Willibald Gluck for the festival.
