The event Wirling Water: From the Tatra mountains to the Danube River showed a vast water canvas of 18 metres above the Danube River in front of the Eurovea Shopping Centre with the names and pictures of several VIPs from Slovak history like Ľudovít Štúr, Alexander Dubček, Peter Sagan and others who contributed to culture, science and sport.

The programme of events along with music and a laser show also included folklore which is inseparable from the Slovak cultural heritage, said the director Stanislava Pavolová.

“Whereas the event is a celebration of the upcoming Slovak presidency of the EU Council, we wanted to spread the European idea as well as the idea of unity and peace in the EU,” Pavolová said, as quoted by the TASR newswire.

The Danube River played the main role in the show as a symbol of the quality of interpersonal relations. The river is closely related to the cities through which it flows although its potential is used only a little here compared to other places in Europe, according to the Sme daily.

The special show completed a 40-days long review of the events of the Slnovrat na Dunaji (solstice on Danube) on the waterway between Bratislava and Komárno held on behalf of the NGO Dunajský fond (Danube Fund). In addition, the show introduced the Slovak presidency of the Council of the European Union in a grand manner, Sme wrote.
