LEMONTREE, a restaurant in central Bratislava, has become the first Thai restaurant in Slovakia to be recognised by the Kingdom of Thailand’s Department of Export Promotion, in the form of its Thai Select award. The award is granted to qualifying restaurants outside Thailand, of which there are currently around 1,200 worldwide. Nongnuth Phetcharatana, Thailand’s ambassador to Austria, officially gave the award to representatives of the restaurant at a special ceremony on November 23.
In the run-up to the event, representatives of the Thai Embassy in Vienna (which also covers Slovakia) and professional Thai chefs tested the skills and knowledge of LemonTree’s chefs and serving staff to check that its food and services were good enough to qualify for the award.
Thai cuisine has become increasingly popular internationally in recent years, thanks in part to its use of natural ingredients, especially fresh herbs and spices.
Part of the criteria for the Thai Select award is the use of authentic Thai ingredients, as well as recipes and food preparation processes. The judges also evaluate the atmosphere of each restaurant to observe compliance with Thai culture and standards of service.
