Slovakia’s telecoms and postal services regulator, the Úrad pre reguláciu elektronických komunikácií a poštových služieb (the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications and Postal Services), has unveiled a new public tool that allows users to measure the quality of their internet connection with certified accuracy.
The online service, simply named Merač Internetu (Internet Speed Meter), offers insights into connection speeds, including download, upload, and latency (ping). Unlike typical speed tests, this platform supports informative one-off checks, automated periodic tests, and certified measurements that users can present as official evidence when lodging complaints against internet providers.
Results are displayed in a clear, user-friendly interface, with access to detailed statistics and test history. The platform also features device synchronisation and adheres to open data principles, promoting greater transparency and accessibility.
Notably, the certified test produces a PDF report that can be used in consumer disputes when contracted speeds do not match actual performance – a common frustration among broadband users across Europe.
