IN SPRING, the project of Chamber opera (Komorná opera) was founded, with the stated goal of aiding and promoting students and fresh graduates of musical fields to get work experience, learn to connect with the audience and to utilise their full potential.
On October 21, the Komorná opera team plans to open the new 2014/2015 season in the House of Culture Zrkadlový háj in Petržalka, offering a Gala Concert with Sisa Lelkes Sklovská, new soloists and the choir and orchestra of Komorná opera, as conducted by Lukáš Kunst Lederer. Tickets cost €8 in advance and €10 at the door.
For this season, Komorná opera promises some lighter operas, as well as rarer genres like operetta, classical musicals and musical-dramatic performances of contemporary Slovak composers. It also plans to cooperate with the Academy of Performing Arts (VŠMU), conservatory, organise youth competitions and educate young visitors through opera workshops and recruitments. For May 2015, a musical composed by a contemporary Slovak composer is planned.
“Apart from operas and vocal concerts, we also want to organise instrumental concerts with our orchestra,” Kunst Lederer told The Slovak Spectator. “For now, Zrkadlový háj will be our venue.” He added that Komorná opera wants to join the European tradition (as seen in Vienna, Budapest, Cologne, or Warsaw, where chamber operas work well), on the basis of students/ graduates who earn practical experience in this way. The conductor also said that Czech and Slovak academies do not have the opportunity to offer this musical/dra-matic experience to their students.
“We make multi-genre performances – for schools as well as for more demanding visitors; I think that everyone can find something to please them in our repertory,” Kunst Lederer concluded.
