A chunk of chewed ear
LIKE to have your ears nibbled? How about devoured by a big bite? Ears Chewing Satisfunction returns to club učko for a second instalment of what organizing musical collective urbsounds calls "music*notmusic". The event will be supported by live visual performances.
International guests include Audiokollectiv from Berlin, "a collection of people who share this strange affinity for all kinds of crazy flashing and sound-producing machines," and ShortwaveŞMassacre from Vienna, a group that makes music using the frequencies of a shortwave radio and an old monochrome television.
Slovak acts will also make an appearance, perhaps the most intriguing being the debut of Mud Woodstone, "an electric blues jam by three lunatics" who supposedly founded the group while bicycling along the Mississippi River.
Ears Chewing Satisfunction 2 takes place Saturday, June 4, at 22:00. Every guest will receive a compilation CD with tracks from the musicians scheduled to perform. Tickets cost Sk120.
Dobrofest: Music to resonate
ALMOST 50 ensembles and soloists from nine countries will join the Trnava Dobrofest, a tribute to resophonic "dobro" guitar inventors, the Slovak-American Dopyera brothers. The event lasts from June 2 to June 5.
American country singer Peter Rowan will be a highlight at the festival, accompanied by Robert Křesťan's Czech ensemble, Druhá tráva. Bob Brozman from New York, no freshman on the Trnava country scene, will come not only to introduce his new songs but also his new wife. Mudpack and Zydeco Alligators come to cheer up the audience from Germany, Toni Balocco arrives from Italy.
Also appearing are: The Hungarian bluegrass band, Another Country, with American guest-player Bruce Lewis; Czech blues-rock big band Blues Station; Poland's popular country singer, Lonestar; and Slovakia's Country Team, among many others.
The organizers say that the festival encompasses several music genres in which the dobro can be found.
