Fencing in the Old Town Hall

Corvus Arma Havrani, a Slovak group practicing historical fencing, will showcase their skills in the Bratislava Nádvorie Starej radnice (Old Town Hall courtyard) on Primaciálne námestie 3 at 19:00 on the following Tuesdays: July 3, 10, 24, and August 7, 21. Tel: 5443 1473.
The Operetta for C & K Army is a classical concert given by the C & K brass chamber orchestra which will be accompanied by a fashion show organised by the Association of Elegant Ladies. Music popular during the era of the Austro-Hungarian empire will be presented along with women's dresses from the 19th century. The event starts 17:00 on July 8 in the Nádvorie Starej radnice (Old Town Hall courtyard) on Primaciálne námestie 3.
Days of Craftsmen is a two-day exhibition showcasing traditional Slovak handicrafts. Exhibition runs from 10:00 to 18:00 on July 8 and 9 in the Nádvorie Starej radnice (Old Town Hall courtyard) on Primaciálne námestie 3.

Organised Runs

The "Podvihorlatský Marathon" starts at 8:00 on July 5 in Michalovce. For more information, call Ivan Pšenko at 0946/642 3536.

Sunday concerts in the presidential garden

Every second Sunday, concerts will be given in the presidential garden behind the president's palace in Bratislava. Performing bands include the Trenčín Town Chamber Orchestra, the Železiarne Podbrezová Brass Music band, C & K Brass Chamber Orchestra of Bratislava and the Children's Brass Music Hradišťanka band.

Austrian Culture Forum exhibition

Austrian Architecture Today is an exhibition featuring leading contemporary architectural works in Slovakia's neighbouring country to the west. The exhibition is being held at the K.F.A. Gallery on Karpatská 11 and runs till July 12. Tel: 5720 1313. Open Mon-Fri 8:00-16:30.

Goethe Institute photo exhibition

An exhibition of the works of German photographer Thomas Florschuetz entitled Fragments of Me, by Myself will run at the Goethe Institute in Bratislava on Panenská 33 till July 20. Tel: 5443 3130-2.

French Institute exhibition

Une histoire de la bande dessinée en France (The History of Comics in France) presents various forms of comic strips and the changes they have undergone in French history. The exhibition first introduces visitors to the father of French comics Rodolph Topffer, then showcases works by contemporary artists. At the French Institute's Gallery on Sedlárska 7 and runs till July 12. Tel: 5934 7777.

Ghost Theatre at Bojnice Castle

When Ghosts Want to Sleep More is the theme of this year's Bojnice Castle series of night shows taking place this weekend July 7 - 8, and every second weekend thereafter throughout the summer (private shows are performed any evening when requested by a group of 20 or more).
The 105 minute show, starting every 20 minutes after 21:00, tells of a love-story between two ghosts Klára and Johan, and is in Slovak, although explanations of the story-line can be told in English beforehand. Czech 'textile artist' exhibition

Alžbeta Burianová, a Czech textile artist, is holding her first exhibition in Bratislava. Burianová, who studied shoe and fashion design, exhibits hand-woven art based on the themes of fire, water, earth and air. Exhibition runs daily except Mon 10:00-18:00 in Galéria SPP on Drevená 4 till July 8. Tel: 5441 6103.
