Zen Centre invites newcomers
Every Tuesday and Thursday from 18:30 to 20:00, the Slovak Zen Buddhism school Kuan Um in Bratislava invites beginners as well as longer-term students to practice and learn about Zen Buddhism. Those interested can attend the meetings at Ľudovíta Fullu 58/22. To get there, take bus #32 from the main train station to the end of the line, get off and walk down Beniakova ulica to Ľudovíta Fullu ulica. Or take trams #1, 5, 9 or 12 from the centre in the direction of Karlova Ves, get off at the Nad Lúčkami stop and go up the hill to Ľudovíta Fullu ulica. October Hash Run at Riviera pub
The Bratislava Hash Group, self-professed "drinkers with a running problem", invite you to join their social run on Saturday, October 21 at 13:30. The meeting point will be at Riviera pub on Devínska cesta, next to the Tatra Banka, in Karlova Ves. Austrian centre exhibits women artists
The Austrian Culture Centre presents the project "3 x 3 Women", which is three different exhibitions by three different women artists from three different places: a painter from Austria, a children's artist from Slovakia, and a singer from the Czech Republic. Italian Embassy Photo Exhibition
The Italian Embassy will open a photo exhibition entitled 'Czechoslovak Legionaries on the Italian Front' depicting the participation of Czechoslovak soldiers in Italy during World War I. The exhibition is housed at the Slovenské národné múzeum (Slovak National Museum), Vajanského nábrežie 2. Kafka interpreted through painting
German artist Wilfried Saur presents his interpretations of writer Franz Kafka's works at the Slovak National Museum on Vajanského nábrežie 2, open daily except Mon 9:00-17:00. Tel: 5934 9141.
Also, photographs of August Sander (1876-1964), one of the most significant German photographers of the 20th century, can be seen at the Slovenská národná galéria (Slovak National Gallery) in a presentation called People of the 20th Century. Swiss culture group exhibits Bratislava art
The Swiss Culture Foundation Pro Helvetia presents a project entitled "Public Subject", an exhibition of contemporary art displayed in the streets of Bratislava, October 5 to 22. French wine tasting exhibit features Bordeaux
The French Institute will hold a literature discussion evening on Wednesday, October 18 at 18:00, at which J.F. Lyotard's book What to Draw? will be discussed at the French Institute's Gallery on Sedlárska 7.
The Institute is also holding an exhibition entitled "Harvest Time", featuring photographs of the grape harvest and wine production, where guests can sample the wine products featured in the photographs. Every Tuesday the exhibition presents a wine expert giving a lecture on different types of Slovak and French wines. This Tuesday, October 17, at 18:00, Régis Argod and Sylvie Gachet will discuss types of French vineyards and wines such as Bordeaux, also at the French Institute's Gallery.
Moreover, the Institute invites you to a photo exhibition of Czech photographer Jiří Chmelař entitled 'Layers'. Dutch Embassy Museum
On September 9, the grand opening of Danubiana, a Museum of Modern Art, took place on the banks of the Danube river. This newly established art museum presently hosts an exhibition of the works of Dutch Painters from 1950 to 2000. Danubiana, part of the larger Meulen Steen art museum, sits south of the Bratislava city centre in the Čunovo area. To get there, drive across Nový most (new bridge) and south through Petržalka until you arrive in Čunovo. From there, follow the signs to Gabčíkovo dam. Or by bus from under the bridge, take the 91 line to Čunovo, where the dam is a short walk away. Exhibition runs till November 17.
