British Chamber of Commerce wine and cheese evening
The British Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic invites you to join their June Wine and Cheese Evening, sponsored by AJS Management, on Wednesday, June 2. The event will be held at the Slovak Restaurant in the Hotel Devín, starting at 18:00. At 18:30, AJS's Renáta Proková and Jim Shekhdar will make a brief presentation on AJS Management and the Pacific Rowing Challenge. For information call 07-310 371.
Alternative film festival in Pezinok
Pezinok, located about 20 km from Bratislava and well known as a regional wine capital, will stage its first Alternative Film Festival during the weekend of May 29-30. Pezinok's Culture Centre will be screening European movies as well as documentaries and short films. Anyone who calls Slovakia their home should try and get out to this festival, because there will be a number of showings of "kinožurnál," or 'cinema journal,' which was a short film that used to be shown before each normal cinema performance. Kinožurnál presented communist versions of history and various political, sporting and cultural themes.
Nostalgia is in fact the main theme of this years's festival, named "The 20th century - Its History and People." The festival is also accompanied by a small exhibition called "Film Posters from the 20th century." Entrance to all movies and events is free. Come and enjoy a day out in Pezinok, either at the movies or at the town's many pubs and restaurants.
