Schuster to speak at May Business Lunch
Ever planning ahead, the American Chamber of Commerce has invited leading presidential candidate Rudolph Schuster to an Exclusive May Business Lunch on May 25 from 13:00 to 14:30. Jumble Sale by International Women's Club
The International Women's Club is organising a jumble sale which will sell used goods to benefit the Kosovar refugees. The sale will be held on May 20th from 12:00 to 17:00 on the ground floor of Primaciálny Palace, and entry is free.
Depending on the donations, the group hopes to offer used clothing for men, women, and children, as well as household goods, kitchen items, toys and general miscellany. If you have items to give away, the group asks that you call Sharon Wakeman, tel.:07-65 31 45 15. All money raised will be sent to the refugees via UNICEF. UNICEF also welcomes donations or tinned or well-packaged non-perishable food, so if you can, bring some along to send to the refugees, the group asks.
The Friends of Slovakia Association Spring Banquet
The Friends of Slovakia Association (Združenie priateľov Slovenska) will hold its Second Annual Spring Banquet and Music concert on May 22 at the Hotel Danube in Bratislava. The banquet of the non-profit group will bring friends and sponsors together to support some of the group's projects, such as the restoration of a Slovak synagogue and Jewish cemetery in Špiš. The entertainment will be provided by singing group Close Harmony Friends from Banská Bystrica. Apart from a silent auction in which people can bid on gifts contributed by various retailers and merchants, there is also a regular auction of goods. The festivities begin at 17:00 with the live auction, followed by dinner at 18:00 and the music concert at 19:00. The cost is 500 Sk. Days of Mexican Culture in Bratislava
On Friday, May 21, the Ambassador of Mexico, Roberta Lajous, will ring in the start of a special cultural festival entitled "The Days of Spanish Culture." The festival, which will take place at the House of Culture Dúbravka, Saratovská 2/A, is supported by the Mexican Embassy and the Company of Mexican Dance Magisterial, as well as the Albatros travellers Club.
The three-day event will open with an exhibition of paintings by Mauricio Duprat called "To see, to live and to paint". There will follow a performance by the dance group Magisterial and the movie "Como Agua para Chocolate" (Like Water for Chocolate),with English subtitles. On Tuesday, May 25 at 18:00, there will be a discussion about travelling through Mexico. Magisterial will round out the celebration by staging another dance performance Thursday, May 27 at 18:00.
