THE SCHENGEN Chamber Orchestra, an orchestra of the European Music Academy (EMA) that was initiated by Bratislava native Jack Martin Händler, performed in Bratislava for the first time last Wednesday.
Conducted by Händler, it featured the world-renowned Cypriot-Greek pianist Cyprien Katsaris, the laureate of the International Rostrum of Young Performers (TIJI UNESCO) that took place in Bratislava in 1977. The significant French classical music magazine Diapason ranked the artist among the world's 100 best pianists of the 20th century in 2001.
The EMA Chamber Orchestra is formed by students and pedagogues of the European Music Academy Schengen/Bratislava, which originated at the TIJI UNESCO music academy founded by Sir Yehudi Menuhin. The EMA seats are Schengener Schloss in Luxembourg and Zichy Place in Bratislava. Directed by Händler, the ensemble's task is to enhance artistic cooperation between renowned musicians and prospective young talents. Händler leads the orchestra as its artistic director.
