SLOVAK cooks and chefs will meet on August 1 at Spišský salaš (Spiš Shepherd's Cottage) to make another attempt at cooking the largest example of one of Slovakia's traditional meals, bryndzové pirohy, the potato dough bags filled with a stuffing made from bryndza sheep cheese.
The attempt will take place within the Spiš Folklore festivities, which will host an international workshop for young cooks in preparing national traditional meals. It will run between July 27 and August 1. For the final day of the festival the organisers have prepared an abundant programme for the general public, including a bryndzové pirohy speed-eating competition and performances by folklore groups.
