BratislavaMUSIC: THE 10th jubilee edition of the well-known Convergences chamber music festival will soon liven up concert halls in Bratislava. Between September 17 and 20, ten performances to suit the tastes of the most discriminating audiences will be available. Among the highlights are the opening concert featuring musicians such as British conductor Richard Cohen, Slovak cellist Jozef Lupták and Japanese violinist Aki Kuroshima, an unusual performance for children from age 5 to 10, and the closing concert by Collegium Musicum. EXHIBITON:SLOVAK modernist art is the focus of a comprehensive exhibition at the Slovak National Gallery, available in Zvolen until October 18. It presents dozens of avant-garde paintings, drawings and graphics from the 1920s and 1930s by some of the most famous local artists including Martin Benka, Miloš Bazovský, Ľudovít Fulla and Július Jakoby. Recurrent topics of these artists’ works, often verging on art engagé, are patriotism, humanism and social critique.
