EXHIBITION: THE TWO current exhibitions at the Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum in Čunovo, near Bratislava, present the works of Hungarian artist Ilona Keserü Ilona, in Colour - Joy - Picture (an extract from which is pictured above), and Slovak artist Rudolf Sikora, in At Last Man Knows. Both exhibitions in the gallery, which is focused on contemporary visual art, represent a mutual creative dialogue. CLASSICAL MUSIC: JJarný koncert japonsko-slovenského priateľstva / The Spring Concert of Japanese-Slovak Friendship is a special event being organised by the Japanese Embassy to Slovakia and the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. It features two outstanding Japanese opera singers, tenor Keitaro Mizufune and soprano Kazuki Ohara. They will perform Japanese songs plus arias from operas by Tchaikovsky, Dvořák and Smetana, as well as the ‘folklorised’ song Pieseň o rodnej zemi by G. Dusík and P. Braxatoris.
Mizufune studied in Tokyo and in Bologna, Italy, and has attended master classes by the renowned Slovak opera singer Peter Dvorský. Ohara studied in Tokyo and specialises in German music of the late-Romantic period.
The concert will take place on May 26 at 19:00 in the Dvorana music hall, Zochova 1, Bratislava. Entrance is free, but it is advisable to reserve tickets in advance by calling 02/5980-0101. For more detailed information, please go to www.sk.emd-japan.go.jp.

CLASSICAL MUSIC: Večer piesní / Evening of Songs - Simona Eisinger, Bernadette Bartos – Eisinger, a young pianist and coloratura soprano who hails from Slovakia but now sings in Vienna, will join forces with pianist Bartos to perform works by G. Mahler, E. Křenek, A. Zemlinsky and R. Strauss.

EXHIBITION: Mo(nu)ment Part II – In this, the second part of a profile exhibition by Milan Vagač, the art student addresses the issue of the statue in public space. Vagač wanders through Bratislava’s streets, pulling a statue pedestal behind him on a string, discovering new contexts and uses for it on his way.

CONCERT: THE SPRING Jazz Days continue with a concert on May 29 in Nitra’s synagogue by Austrian band Hot Pants Road Club (above); the Slovak winner of TV’s Superstar contest Katka Koščová; and the young, recently discovered Slovak talent Vanda. Hot Pants Road Club is an eight-member funk-blues orchestra which has already put out 10 albums. Katka Koščová has shifted her repertory from pop to jazz and chanson. Admission will be a symbolic €1.
