The Uprising Reggae Festival will – again – bring a concentrated selection of reggae to Bratislava on August 24 and 25. LIVE MUSIC: Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson – legendary UK band with famed Scottish singer, musician and composer will perform in the Slovak capital its latest album Thick As A Brick 2, as well as material from the first Thick As A Brick album. EXHIBITION: Cena Jindřicha Chalupeckého – The Jindřich Chalupecký Prize – The prestigious artistic award was founded in 1990 as initiated by Václav Havel, poet and painter Jiří Kolář and painter Teodor Pištěk and is awarded to contemporary artists under the age of 35. Although the laureate will be picked only in autumn, the current exhibition in the Slovak National Gallery presents one of five finalists, Jiří Thýn.

EXHIBITION: Pripraviť sa, pozor, štart! / Ready, Set, Go! – The project, timed to coincide with the 30th Summer Olympics in London, represents a wide selection of works connected with this important global athletic event, and was curated by Omar Mirza, featuring authors from Slovakia, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Guatemala.

FESTIVAL OF HUMOUR: Kremnické gagy – Kremnica gags is a renowned international comedy festival. This year, its 32nd, will feature the Zlatý gunár (Golden Gander) and Trafená hus (Struck Goose) competitions, offering local (Túlavé divadlo, Astorka, Divadlo Andreja Bagara, Radošinské naivné divadlo) as well as international (Marco Carolei- IT, Juicy Lucy – FR/IS, Hillary Chaplain – US) performers. FESTIVAL:The new film festival “Eastsider” in Prešov will offer movies – divided into four sections - symbolising the four cardinal directions: Poland for the north, Slovakia symbolising the west, and Hungary representing the south. The fourth section is focused on students’ works. The festival will take place between August 23 and 26 in various venues. The screenings will be combined with concerts and discos on Aug 24 and 25 in the Bizarre Club and the Wave Club, featuring bands and singers such as Plastic Swans, The Cubes, Chiki Liki Tu-a, Pjoni & Ink Midget, and Dj DeadJanitor. ART FESTIVAL: Andy Warhol v uliciach Košíc – Andy Warhol in the Streets of Košice – World-famous king of pop-art, born on August 6, 1928 in the USA to parents from Miková (eastern Slovakia) will influence cultural and social activities in the city of Košice throughout the month of August, from big-sized high-heel shoes in Warhol-style, through fashion shows and various parties, to “Andy’s menu” to be offered by some restaurants.

CLASSICAL MUSIC: 10. Humenské organové dni Štefana Thomána – The 10th Humenné Organ Days of Štefan Thomán – The summer festival of organ music offers, this week, Italian master Massimo Nosetti. (Next week, US organ player David Di Fiore will play). Thomán was a piano virtuoso, a favourite student of Franz Liszt, and a Humenné native.

VINTAGE CARS: Tatranská promenáda / Tatra Promenade – A parade of vintage cars as part of the 29th year of the international competition Oldtimer Rallye Tatry 2012 will focus on a number of these sophisticated vehicles. In early evening, the Funny Fellows band performing swing music and popular music from the 1920s-1940 will complete the period atmosphere.
