Craftsmen Days ÚĽUV / Dni Majstrov ÚĽUV is an event that promotes traditional Slovak crafts, folklore and world music, and celebrates the merger of older traditions with modern culture. This year it has grown into a weekend of concerts, dance performances, workshops (including some for children), traditional food tasting, a market of folk crafts, and more. Between August 31 and September 2, more than 200 craftsmen, including ethnic Slovaks from Serbia, Hungary and Romania, will show their skills. CLASSICAL MUSIC: The 3rd year of the Katedrálny organový festival / Cathedral Organ Festival in St Martin’s Cathedral in Bratislava offers works by Bach, Perron and others, as performed by organ player Roman Perucki and violinist Mária Perucká (both from Poland) on August 30. On September 2 the festival climaxes with the Slovak Philharmonic – conducted by Rastislav Štúr – and the Technik and Tirnavia choirs joining the organ as the solo instrument, played by F.J. Stoiber from Austria.

CLASSICAL MUSIC: Organové dni v Piešťanoch / Organ Days in Piešťany – The 13th year of this international organ festival brings a week of classical music to the spa town of Piešťany between Aug 21 and 30. On August 28, Polish organ player Roman Perucki and Polish violinist Mária Perucká perform works by Bach, Auguste Peron, Felix Borowski, J.J. Bott, Leon Boellmann, Tchaikovsky and Joseph Reinberger.

FESTIVAL:Finnish folklore ensemble Kärri presents traditional live music and dance from across Finland, but mainly from the region of Karelia. The artistic leader of Kärri is renowned choreographer Antti Savilampi, who will dance himself during the tour, which starts on September 2 in Batelier, Bratislava, and will continue on September 5 to the House of Culture in Doľany (Pezinok District), on September 7 to Banská Štiavnica (as part of the town’s Salamander Days festival), and on September 8 to Banská Bystrica’s SNP Square.
