CONCERT: VICTOR Wooten, a Grammy-winning US jazz-funk composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist, will perform at Bratislava’s Ateliér Babylon (in SNP Square 14) on April 22 at 20:00, accompanied by the popular Slovak Juraj Griglák Trio, consisting of Juraj Griglák (bass), Martin Valihora (drums) and Eugen Vizváry (keyboards). Wooten’s band will consist of himself on bass, plus Derico Watson (drums), Krystal Peterson (vocals), Joseph Wooten (keyboards) and Elijah Wooten (guitar). OPERA/CONCERT: Piotr Beczala – One of the world’s most sought-after lyrical tenors will sing in the opera theatre of the Slovak National Theatre (SND) popular arias from world operas as well as from operas of Slavonic composers, accompanied by the Czech National Symphonic Orchestra conducted by Lukasz Borowicz.

BALLET/CLASSICAL MUSIC: Faunovo Popoludnie, Biele Sny, Svätenie Jari / The Afternoon of a Faun, White Dreams, The Rite of Spring (premiere) – Composer Igor Stravinsky’s rather symbolic Rite of Spring has been hailed as one of most impressive pieces in the history of dance theatre (it is now choreographed by Ladislav Cmorej). The Afternoon of a Faun is a piece by Claude Debussy (choreographed by Boris Nebyla) and White Dreams is the work of Ryuichi Sakamato (choreographed by Igor Vejsada).

The young, local gospel choir G.O.D., led by Jana Tomko Ferenčíková, will sing gospels and pop music on April 24.

CLASSICAL MUSIC: 59th Košice Musical Spring – The festival of classical music opens in Košice with a concert of Vladimír Godár’s Via Lucis, and the works of Bruch and Beethoven, as conducted by Johannes Wildner and performed by Nora Skuta on piano, Jozef Lupták on cello and Igor Karško on violin. The second concert features Czech violinist Václav Hudeček and Slovak Sinfonietta from Žilina (conducted by Leoš Svárovksý) playing Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
