CONCERT: IDA Kelarová, a Czech musician known for fusing traditional Roma music with jazz, rock and Latino rhythms, will perform with the ensemble JazzFamelija (Kelarová – vocals; Desiderius Dužda – guitar, vocals; Ondrej krajňák – piano; Tomáš Baroš – double bass; Marián ˇXevčík – drums) and young Roma talents from her Čhavorenge choir on September 11 at 18:00 in the Radosť complex near Štrkovec Lake in the Ružinov borough of Bratislava (in case of rain, the concert will move into the Ružinov House of Culture Cultus, on Ružinovská 28). LITERARY EVENT: Franz Kafka died 90 Years Ago – The reading of the works of this world renowned Prague-based writer is part of the Kafkove Matliare / Kafka’s Matliare festival, which takes place in four venues in 2014, the year of the 90th anniversary of his death (in Vienna, Prague, Bratislava and the Matliare sanatorium in the High Tatras, where Kafka treated his illness). The Bratislava event offers two lectures and one reading from a drama about Kafka’s stay in Matliare.

LIVE MUSIC: The Ján Koniarek Gallery will host two concerts in its Synagogue venue: on September 9, Samaria Verses Band (Juraj Turtev – vocals, guitar; Krisztina Takács – vocals; Andor Buják – saxophone, vocals; Kristián Buják - bagpipe, darbuka, vocals; Miloš Železňák – guitar, vocals; and Judita Kaššovicová – reciting) will play their brand of world music in a concert called Šamorínske verše – My v krajine, krajina v nás / Šamorín Verses – We in the Country, the Country in Us. CLASSICAL MUSIC: Američan v Paríži / American in Paris – The first concert in the Slovak State Philharmonic Košice’s (ŠfK) new 2014/2015 season, called American in Paris, brings a host of the “delicacies” of orchestral music, featuring works from a range of composers, like Astor Piazzola, Lucius Dalla, Jac-ques Offenbach, Dvořák, Khachaturian, Leonard Bernstein, Alexander Borodin, Václav Trojan and George Gershwin.
