FESTIVAL: BLAF, or the Bratislava Art Festival, is a festival of visual art and it offers many events in the capital’s biggest galleries and museums, as well as in smaller venues. It also comprises film screenings, art workshops for children and adults, playful lectures, guided tours, a symposium on the Oskar Čepán Awards and the Is Art for the Masses? symposium, explorations of “the culture of city cycling” and many accompanying events, like the Objects of Research body theatre combined with other media and techniques. The festival’s programme takes place between October 2 and 5 can be found (also in English) at www.blaf.sk. Some performances are free; others require tickets or at least booking in advance with the gallery or venue.

MUSIC FESTIVAL: Waves Bratislava – The sister event to the music festival Waves Vie-nna will feature Ireland’s Girl Band, the UK’s Blaenavon, Knalpot and Alamo Race Track from the Netherlands, Zapaska from Ukraine, Lovely Quinces and Vlasta Popič from Croatia and The Ills and Purist from Slovakia. There will be a special focus on Croatia and the Netherlands, the two countries representing the festival’s motto, “East Meets West”.

ARCHITECTURE/ART: PechaKucha Night – Designers, architects, artists and creative types will get 6 mi-nutes and 40 seconds to pre-sent their projects through 20 images. ART EVENT: BIELA Noc, White Night, or Nuite Blanche, is an art event that brings visual art and related media to the streets and introduces them to people who are otherwise unfamiliar with them. This year, on October 4 from 19:00 the event will bring to the streets and indoor venues of Košice an exhibition of the work of Elise Morin, composed of 60,000 CDs; Caitlind r.c.
