Capitals closer through art
THE CAPITALS of Slovakia and Austria have exchanged paintings to bring citizens of the neighbouring cities together, the SITA news agency reported. The project lasts until November 18. Bratislava Nové Mesto Cultural Centre at Vajnorská 21 is displaying 20 works from students of the Künstlerische Volkshochschule Wien. Vienna's Art School at Lazarettgasse 27 exhibited 60 works from Bratislava artists of various generations.
Roskopf breaks record
BRATISLAVA native Milan Roskopf was one of the 30 people invited to compete in untraditional disciplines during the international Impossibility Challenger Games in Munich last weekend. By juggling three 20-pound (9.08 kilogramme) steel balls for 25.56 seconds he was aspiring for his third Guinness World Records certificate.
Slovaks exhibit in Prague
PRAGUE's Gallery U zlatého prstenu (At Golden Ring), in cooperation with the Slovak Institute Prague, opened an exhibition of contemporary Slovak painting entitled Draught, curated by Richard Gregor. Around 60 Slovak painters introduce works created over the past five years to the Czech public. There are famous names as well as emerging talents. The exhibition runs until January 2006.
Zoričák in New York
FOR two more days, until November 16, visitors to the famed Episcopal Cathedral of St John in Manhattan, New York, can see the Glass Universe of renowned glassmaker Ján Zoričák.
The artist, who was born beneath the Tatras but currently lives and works in France, displays his fascination with stars and the universe through 22 glassworks using specialized techniques.
