THE DRAMA section of the Slovak National Theatre (SND) will offer some of its performances with English subtitles as of January 2015, within the project Bring Your Foreigner. This will allow foreigners who either live in or visit Slovakia to see not only opera and ballet, but also drama performances “without any language barrier”, the TASR newswire reported on December 8.
“The statistics show that inhabitants of about 100 countries live in Bratislava,” said Izabela Pažítková, press secretary of SND, as quoted by TASR, adding that they are trying to give them a homey feeling and offer them the chance to choose from the rich offer of drama performances.
Right in the beginning of the year, the drama section will perform The Illusion by Russian drama writer Ivan Vyrypaev, Buddenbrooks (a drama based on the novel by Thomas Mann), Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, Gustav Flaubert’s Madame Bovary, Jonathan Littell’s The Kindly Ones, Elfriede Jelinek Rechnitz’s The Angel of Death, and Carpathian Thriller by Slovak author Eugen Gindl.
“As of November, the SND also has in its repertoire the bilingual Slovak-German play Land der ersten Dinge made in co-production with Deutsches Theater Berlin with Slovak subtitles,” Pažítková said, as quoted by TASR.
