BRATISLAVA
MIROSLAV CIPÁR, a noted artist and book illustrator, is currently exhibiting his works at Bratislava's Zichy Palace. Entitled Out of Frame, the display shows around 30 paintings and sculptures in which he captures the imperfection of human beings with slight humour. The artist, whose work has been seen, for example, at San Francisco's Commonwealth Club, is the chairman of Slovakia's Press Council and a founding member of the Graphic Artists' Club in Bratislava. Out of Frame runs at the palace's Z Gallery, at Ventúrska 9, Mondays to Saturdays from 12:00 to 18:00 until February 22. Admission is free. CENTRAL SLOVAKIA
THE ANNUAL Dance Festival in Banská Bystrica enters its 13th year. Starting at 17:00 on January 30, it will present traditional non-folk ensembles from the Banská Bystrica region performing everything from ballroom, modern ballet, and scenic dances to shows inspired by American country-folk dances. The dancers will mostly be children and students up to 25 years old, among whom will be the world's sixth best boogie-woogie dancer, Miroslav Žatko. The festival was founded to offer space for these types of dances, as folk-dance programmes heavily prevail in the country.
