BRATISLAVA
A CONCERT of works by renowned Czech composer Bedřich Smetana (1824-1884), held as part of the Year of Czech Music, will take place at the Concert Hall of the Slovak Philharmonic on March 4 and 5. The Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, under the baton of Czech conductor Leoš Svárovský, will perform symphonic poems from Smetana's opus My Homeland. Smetana, best known for his opera The Bartered Bride, became deaf late in his life but continued to compose. The concert will start at 19:00 at the Slovak Philharmonic, at Palackého 2. CLASSICAL CONCERT: Bohdan Warchal's Slovak Chamber Orchestra - The orchestra, featuring violinist Ewald Danel (the orchestra's current conductor), trombonist Albert Hrubovčák, and pianists Peter Pažický and Aleš Solárik, plays music by Dag Wirén, Lars-Erik Larsson, Ilja Zeljenka and Josef Suk.

EXHIBITION: Slow Down, Speed Up - Multimedia artist Beöthy Balázs from Budapest displays 5,000 beer bottles arranged in a path on the floor, as he used to see them in Bratislava's old gardens, and features a collection of 1,001 photographs of rainbows taken from the internet displayed with a video projector.

WESTERN SLOVAKIA
DEVIL'S Violin, the highly successful seven-member Slovak band led by violinist Ján Berky-Mrenica Jr, will play for an audience in the western Slovak town of Myjava. The lively tunes of this band range from Slovak and Gypsy folk music to classical works and modern compositions. The band, which has toured the world, will perform with Slovak opera singer Ján Babjak. The concert starts at 19:00 on March 6, at the Dom kultúry (House of Culture), Partizánska 17, Myjava.
