BRATISLAVA
THE BRATISLAVA Castle will again become the spot of the open-air Summer Shakespeare Festival. This year its courtyard will stage the most famous drama about love and hatred, Romeo and Juliet. Within its Czech-Slovak portion, July 26 - 31, the audience will see the drama rehearsed under the eyes of director Martin Huba. During the final two days of the festival, August 1 and 2, the play will be put on by TNT Theatre Britain and the American Drama Group Europe led by director Paul Stebbings. This ensemble will stop in Bratislava during its ambitious project Castle Tours, within which it performs the play at the most significant castles across Europe. The performance stems from the original text of the drama and puts stress on the characters' strong features rather than the romantic lines. The performance starts daily at 20:30. FESTIVAL: Červeník - Each day of the three-day festival is dedicated to a different kind of music ranging from pop to folk.

TERCHOVÁ, a distinctive village nested in central Slovakia, will host the folk dance and music festival Jánošíkove dni (Jánošík Days) between July 30 and August 1. Apart from Slovak ensembles, the 42nd annual festival will feature artists from the Czech Republic, Poland, and Serbia. In total, over 40 folklore ensembles and bands will perform and show the latest trends in this music segment. The list of performers include Nebeská Muzika, Lojzo band, Czech siblings Hana a Petr Ulrychovci, and others. Presentation of folklore in visual arts and photography at special exhibitions will accompany the event. The festival is named after Jánošík, a legendary hero, who was reportedly born in this village. One-day ticket costs Sk120. The festival takes place at the local amphitheatre and enclosed premises.
