CLASSICAL MUSIC: St Matthew Passion - More than one hundred singers and musicians from seven countries perform the masterpiece by Johann Sebastian Bach within the Bach festival.

INTERNATIONAL and Slovak musicians will perform high quality contemporary blues music in a marathon session at the 13th annual festival of rhythm and blues music Livin' Blues 2005, which starts at the Lúky House of Culture on March 19 at 16:30. The festival will present music from two different, but parallel, blues scenes. The Bluesmen from Stoka scene will feature musicians who regularly play at the Stoka Theatre on blues Mondays. These include Juraj Turtev, Juraj "Mojo" Haruštiak, Peter "Bonzo" Radványi and The Resonators. Dillon John Werry and The Thieves, from Great Britain, will join them. The second scene features the Blues House band from Trnava, with singer Jana Ružičková, and the Blues 8 band from Prievidza. Jazz and soul singer Zuzana Suchánková will introduce her band, Four. Silvia Josifoska and her band with well-known harmonica player Erich "Boboš" Procházka will be the highlight of the evening. Czech band the Tucet Blues Band from Prague and Polish line-up Easy Rider will represent the foreign blues scene. Tickets cost Sk260, Sk290. The House of Culture is located at Víglašská 1. EASTERN SLOVAKIA
The Magic of Hot Coal exhibition presents the history of ironing and irons - from simple manual mangles and irons when hot coal, gas or spirits were used for heating them to the electric iron. The exhibition presents this mundane household item as something often manufactured with great artistic skill. The first references to irons date back to the 17th century, but they became a common piece of household equipment only 200 years later.
Electric irons came in at the end of the 19th century. The pieces on show include iron, copper cast and forged irons, as well as other ironing implements. The exhibition is housed at the Slovak Technical Museum at Hlavná 88 in Košice. It is open Tue-Fri 8:00-17:00, Sat 9:00-14:00 and Sun 12:00-17:00 until March 31. Tickets cost Sk20.
